Weshalb mit RAW-Format fotografieren!

Kurz: Ihr solltet auf RAW nicht verzichten, wenn Eure Kamera Euch diese Möglichkeit bietet, damit Ihr alle Details einer Fotografie mit nach Hause nehmt.

Wenn Eure Kamera RAW speichern kann: Dann speichert auch nur RAW!

Der erste Grund ist der Kontrastumfang so mancher Fotografie. Ob nun helle Partien ausbrennen oder dunkle Partien im Sumpf mangelnder Durchzeichnung versinken: Die RAW-Daten eröffnen hier noch fast immer einen Weg. JPEG hingegen bügelt alles weg, was dann eine gute Fotografie ausmachen könnte.

Weshalb also zufrieden sein mit einer JPEG-Speicherung, wenn (falls) Euer Fotoapparat eine RAW-Speicherung ermöglicht? Denn einen Datenumfang, den Ihr am Ende nicht benötigt, den könnt Ihr daheim getrost noch immer fallen lassen. Aber wenn Ihr den Datenumfang benötigt und nicht zur Verfügung habt – weil Ihr nur eine JPEG mit nach Hause gebracht habt – dann könnt Ihr Euch nur noch ärgern!

Um den Kontrastumfang bewältigen zu können, haben einst Fotografen einen großen Aufwand betrieben. Einer davon ist bekannt und berühmt: Ansel Adams. Denn der hat die altbekannten Techniken in der Belichtung und Entwicklung von Filmmaterial zur Perfektion getrieben und seine Meisterschaft daraus gemacht. Und weil er Bücher darüber publiziert hat, deshalb ist sein so genanntes Zonensystem auch weltbekannt geworden.

Wegen des hohen Kontrastumfangs, den moderne digitale Kamerasensoren bewältigen könnnen, ist so viel Aufwand aber nicht mehr nötig! Und jeder kann die Grundlagen für perfekte Fotos mit nach Hause nehmen. Einzige Voraussetzung: die Speicherung der Bilddaten im RAW-Format. Denn nur wenn man die rohen Daten speichert, dann kann man die Möglichkeiten des Sensors auch nutzen.

RAW-Format für Kontrastumfang und Detailreichtum!

Der zweite Grund, weshalb Ihr RAW-Format nutzen solltet, ist die Detailtreue der rohen Daten. Denn JPEG ist ein Komprimierungsverfahren – das Details frisst.

First, this is to keep control to the contrast.

RAW-formate is the only, you should take photos with!

Very often contrast is by far to strong for prints, and even to strong for your screen. Once Ansel Adams developed something we call the „zone system“. That is a system to treat your negative film with specific exposure and a specific chemical developement. Ansel Adams was not the only one who know about that: it was a common knowledge for former photographers. However, Ansel Adams was the one who made it up to his mastery – and book published, so that everyone could know, who was interested in.

With sensors in your digital camera, however, that are able to care about high contrast you can manage contrast without taking the long way through „zone system“. The only thing you have to do is to save your shots in RAW-formate.

Second, it is to keep any and every detail of the image you’ve shot with your camera.

JPEG is not for use on camera data space!

The intension of JPEG is to handle your digital space economically. That is the reason why JPEG kills details and why JPEG kills your photos! JPEG is only good and right to save a completed photography after digital processing – and in highest quality and lowest compression. JPEG is never good for saving a fresh camera shot on data space of your camera.

Ever and always you need to take home the rough data in any RAW-formate! Never be satisfied with less than RAW!

SAMYANG 16 mm F2.0 – APS-C wide angle lens

Introducing with only some words: after enjoying the Samyang 10 mm F2.8, a weakly competetive 16-mm-lens would have been a disappointment. – However, it is not! Samyang 16 mm F2.0 – a great wide angle lens for APS-C !

The Samyang 16 mm F2.0 is a very modest lens that does not cause sensation. You need another sense of good or bad to find it’s inner worth!

This are the two characteristics that stand out mostly: • best lens coating provides high contrast and lowest ghosting • including aspherical lenses, this optical tool  offers very low distortion.

Using the Samyang 16 mm F2.0, you will not acquire a good reputation. With a fixed focus you do not enjoy the comfort of modern zoom lenses. You are – so to say – out of date. Using a manual lens on a modern body, you are by far out of date. In spite of such a sacrifice, using a big and heavy lens of 570 up to maybe 615 g (depending on your camera system) for nothing but a full frame aquivalent of 24 or 25.6 mm, maybe 30 or 32 mm (four thirds), might bring you into disrepute to be a little bit crazy.

You, however, will be the one who knows the secret of this lens: greatest ability of an optical wide angle tool at an acceptable price. Outstanding quality specially for best results on APS-C-sonsors. Your price is to manage photographing without modern comfort. – A price you should be willing to give, if you do not need the comfort of controlling exposing easily via the camera body and if you do not need the comfort of autofocus and if you do not need the convenience of zoom lenses, when using such a strong wide angle lens of aquivalently around 24 mm.

Was ein AdvancedFrame von ADVANCED ELEMENTS wesentlich ausmacht? Endlich habe ich es in einem neuen Video zusammengefasst. Und zeige Bilder und Videosequenzen dazu – und zu dem Spaß, den man mit einem AdvancedFrame haben kann!

AdvancedFrame-Kajaks: so stabil und sicher wie eine klassische Hartschale

Denn sagen kann man viel, Papier ist sprichwörtlich geduldig – und vom Internet und allem, was man im Internet zu lesen bekommen kann, möchte ich nun gar nicht erst anfangen zu lamentieren… Also: Schaut Euch mein Video an und seht selbst.

Dennoch: An dieser Stelle möchte ich kurz benennen, worauf es ankommt.

Zum einen ist es der so genannte AdvancedFrame®. Damit erhält ein solcher Kajak mit hinreichender Festigkeit die ordentliche Form von Bug und Heck. So schneiden sich die Boote der AdvancedFrame-Baureihe, „Kayak“, „Expedition“ und „Convertible“ durch das Wasser wie ein „richtiges“ Boot. Von Schlauchboot keine Spur. Diese Kajaks nehmen dankbar und leicht Tempo auf und ermöglichen ein respektables Tourentempo.

Zum anderen ist da der Backbone – der allerdings eine Sonderausstattung ist. Da ist extra Geld gefragt, das Ihr ausgeben solltet. Und ich gebe es auch gleich zu: Ich bin ein AdvancedFrame noch nie (!) ohne Backbone gefahren. Aber ich kenne so genannte Schlauchkajaks, die dieses Ausstattungsmerkmal nicht besitzen – und bei aller Erscheinung wie ein Kajak oder Kanu am Ende doch nur Schlauchboote sind. Ein AdvancedFrame, ausgestattet mit Backbone aber benimmt sich in Wind und Wellen und Stromschnellen so, dass man gleich merkt: DARUM allein gibt es diese Schlauch-Kajaks von Advanced Elements – weil die Badeboote andere schon bauen.

Das Dritte ist – man staunt vielleicht – der flache Unterboden, der die Boote der AdvancedFrame-Baureihe so dankbar und einfach in der Handhabung macht, dass ein jeder sich darauf wohlfühlen kann. Ganz egal, ob Ihr routinierte Kajaker seid… oder blutige Anfänger auf dem Wasser.

All das könnt Ihr in meinem Video durch Bildmaterial und echte Filmsequenzen untermauert finden – zugleich auch unterhaltsam. Denn Herstellerangaben auf Internetseiten oder in Prospekten sind einfach zu knapp, um den Unterschied wirklich verstehen zu können. Und weil Datenblätter oder Gebrauchsanweisungen so trocken sind…
